Many days, months a sea had gone by. They stopped by each port to pick up supplies. This night wasn't anything new. Once the ropes were drawn out and the ship was hooked up the once joking man now quiet man walked off the ship and stood yelling orders to the other men. They would stay the night there for one night or maybe a few days. Crossing his arms he just stood there and watched with a stern look on his face. So much had changed about him and the crew hated it. He hated himself most of the time. Shaking his head he yelled out" Get the f**king boxes down we need to load more!"
It wasn't by sea that she had traveled, it wasn't her preferred way. Many times her jobs would take her to distant lands, and this would be one of those occasions. The price to be collected was a rare object which was worth more than a king’s treasure in more ways than one to certain individuals. Something she could use to barter for something rarer she was in search of to aid the Tsol Raa. The deed had taken place in the port city, in the dark alley laid the body of a city official. However, the cause of death when looked upon would be death by a venomous snake; not considered a local serpent. It would be said it was perhaps an exotic animal that escaped, or had hidden within the crates of product shipped from distant shores. Many rumors to transpire, however, one would never be uttered, and that was the man had been murdered! Her dark cloaked form would be swiftly making its way through the market area and towards the port. It was here that she kept her trusty stead in wait. The massive snow white equine, perhaps it's riding tact would be familiar, perhaps not. It wasn't tied in restriction to anything grounded. It instead stood alone, in wait, and unapproachable by any who neared and tried to stake their claim. In fact, one poor individual was in peril at the moment as he tried to snag the free reins. The equine reared on its hind legs with the intent of caving in the man's head.
He turned to walk up the dock toward the market speaking to no one. He had nothing to say. Seeing the horse he stopped and stared at it for a few moment watching it rear up. He stepped forward quickly out of instinct and took a hold of the stead's reins hoping to calm it down. A look was given to the man who quickly walked away. Fingers brushed against the mane. “Calm down.”
She had moved to where she heard the horse scream in protests, and then it’s being quieted. Slowly she moved around a pile of crates to view where she had left the equine for her quick getaway. Adorned in those dark leathers that permitted her to blend easily with the night and up until this moment as she moved out into the open it had worked well. She stood with a dagger in hand, prepared to take on whoever was trying to steal her horse. But, she ended up coming to a halt in her tracks when she seen exactly whom it was. Months had passed since she received his missive. Many times she had sat at her desk with intent to answer, but found herself simply walking away. She didn't know what to say then, and the shock of seeing him standing there soothing her mount kept her mute at this moment as well. Forgetting her hidden form and the fact that dagger was evident in the gloved grip of hand.
Holding onto the stead he turned to see the cloaked woman. He knew who it was. The dagger alone and her cloak gave it away, plus it was almost he could feel her near him. Petting the horse he just stared at her without saying a word.
Silent still, she'd slowly approach the equine that was tugging to gain freedom of his reins to intercept his mistress. It was as she approached that realization of the dagger in hand came to mind and it was slipped away as she moved in towards the massive horse. "It's strange he didn't react violently to you." Quietly stated as she moved to the equines side. Working the lacings of saddle bags, she had something to put inside for safe keeping.
He let go of the reins when she stepped up and backed away some. Crossing his arms he stood there and watched almost looking around to see what kind of trouble she had brought upon herself. He knew her well. Tilt of his head while looking at her" He knows me. What are you doing here and don't tell me that your shopping." Eyes roamed over her body quickly.
Once the item was securely tucked away, she'd slowly turn to face towards him. "Then I won't tell you that." Hands lifted to draw back the cowl that cast shadows upon visage, and revealed the hinted smirk to rest upon lips. It was then she set to the task of removing the dark cloak completely as she moved to the equines opposite side. Again the saddle bags would be unlaced and from it she'd withdraw the albino cloak of Arctic wolves’ fur. The dark removed and replaced by that of snow white, then the leather cloak would be placed into the saddle bag after being carefully rolled.
He just stood there and watched her. A brow arched while shaking his head. He looked up in time to see guards coming through the market looking for someone and he could only guess it was her. Grabbing her by the arm and the reins to the horse he pulled her with him toward his ship. He didn't say a word and if she jerked he would pull harder. Once on the dock he handed the reins to one of his men" Put him on the ship now. " Her still wrapped in his hand he pulled her on board and down below before he let go of her and then he looked at her" What in the f**k did you do?"
She would indeed resist. A frown to mar features as she'd draw back against his pull. Not just once, but several times. However, his grip was firm and she was drug behind him and onto his ship. She worried not about the guard, for no one would be searching for a murderer, the death would be filed as due to an accident of nature. The snake would eventually be found, though there may be a few more 'victims' before it would be destroyed. In the belly of his ship, when he released she'd take a step back. "You know d**n well I never discuss my business." Stated in a slight stern tone as she rubbed her wrist that was now free of his grasp. "And if you have to ask, it shows you never really knew much about me!"
Shaking his head he stood against the frame arms crossing once again." Maybe I don't. You’re free to leave anytime you want to. You’re not a slave. “Moving to the side he grabbed himself some ale and took a drink from it
That had her just looking at him. "I know I'm not a slave. Anyone who tried to enslave me would find their innards upon the floor; even you!" Stated matter of factly. "So you drag me down here just to let me leave." Slowly shakes her head as she turned to head towards the ladder.
He didn't say anything but grabbed his mug and walked toward the back of the room and sat down. Pain filled his whole entire body just seeing her. Staring at the wall in front of him he continued to drink.
A glance back at him and a pause at the ladders base. Again she'd slowly shake her head. "You've changed." Is all she'd state before she'd climb the ladder to the upper deck of the ship. A glance about to see the men that were busy at their tasks, though a few did look her way. "I want my horse back." Demanded of one who moved near. She'd then move to the railing of the ship to await visual affirmation of the equine being lead back to the dock.
He had changed. Standing up after hearing her he moved up the ladder and looked to the men. One look was given and the ship was soon pushed off port and heading out to sea. The horse was fine and being well taken care of. There were a couple of them there. He had good man and a fine ship. Taking another drink he looked at her" You will have your own room, I can't sit at a port knowing you did something to get my men harmed because you KNOW I would kill anyone that touched you" Shaking his head he headed back down the ladder to sit down
He did what?!? She tried to reach the plank before they disembarked but was barred from doing so? She'd attack the first couple of men that were near. She'd cause them injury, but nothing that would be considered fatal, just her attempt to escape; which failed horribly. Able to take on a few men, there were more and soon she'd be held down by several that fought hard to keep her contained. "Once I get free, I'll give you all a bloody smile." A threat hissed through her teeth. Soon the ship was fast on its way out to sea and they'd release their hold. She was absolutely furious at this point and moved to the railing of the ship and looked out over it, and then towards the distant shoreline as she worked to gauge distance. Hands gripping the railing tightly, yes, she was considering jumping overboard.
One of the men who had been hit came down and told him what happened. He only laughed then got up and climbed up the ladder finding her like she was going to jump. Stepping up behind her he stood there" You won't leave your horse. " Another man walked up and began to complain about what she had done and a dagger was brought to his throat quickly as others watched" I don't give a f**k if she stabs you, you touch her and I will kill all of you slowly." the man backed down and walked away.
Slowly she turned to gaze upon him with narrowed eyes. "You force me aboard your ship, then whisk me away without my consent, then stand for my honor when someone moves to retaliate what I did to them?" Scoffed. A glance towards the man that complained. "Be lucky I let any of you live." Snapped harshly. Then looking back to Alex. "What do you care any way’s? You chose to leave! "
"I HAD NO CHOICE!" Yelling he backed away from her and began to head back down the ladder but looked back at her" You doubt what I have ever felt for you? I haven't touched ANOTHER f**kING WOMAN EVER!" Tossing his mug over the railing the men got busy real quick and he was headed down the ladder. Grabbing a hold of a bottle he smashed it against the wall
"YOU DID HAVE A CHOICE!" She'd yell back at him as she stormed a few steps forward. "YOU COULD HAVE STAYED AND FOUGHT, BUT NO, INSTEAD YOU TURNED TAIL AND RAN!" Surely that had a few of his men looking at her as she barked back at their captain. If they though their captain bit hard, it was evident they never met the likes of her then. Moving to the ladders edge, but she'd not go below deck. "You left me and naught a word did I hear. I move on with my life and then you reappear, expecting things to be like they had been. You learn this not true, so you turned tail and ran. It shows I didn't mean enough for you to stay and try to make things right. NOOOOOO! Instead, what do you do? Sail away again and leave me nothing but words on paper." She'd then spat to the side, turning to storm back to the railing and looking out over the sea.
He heard her and another bottle went smashing against the wall. Climbing up the ladder he walked over to her and took a hold of her arm turning her around" I was called by the king to leave more than once you know of all what duty means. And yeah to hear that you felt something for someone else when I was at war thinking of you every f**king night made it harder. How would you f**king feel Kat?!! We will be at a port in the morning you can leave then" Letting go of her he moved to the end of the ship and just stood there
"And not one raven did you have access to, nor a messenger to even leave word that you still lived and breathed!" Her tone was hard. When he moved away she'd watch him, and at this point many of the men were simply making motion as their attention was on the two. "You know d**n well what happened to my husband. How I awaited his return only to find my wait was in vain. Yet, when I came to accept you'd never return and lived on, you find this surprising." Giving him a reminder of her history he already knew about. "You made a promise you'd never put me through what he did, and yet you did, and now you're surprised in my reaction?" Scoffs and shakes her head. "I can't help what happened, nor will I apologize for it. He has never touched me in the ways that you have, nor can he!"
He didn't look at her for the moment then turned around and did. " But he has touched you. "His eyes were stern as he moved past her toward the ladder. By the gods all he wanted to do was feel her. Yelling to his men" Keep going south, I'm going to bed." climbing down the ladder he went to his room and just stood there rubbing his hands over his face
That was his only response? It left her flabbergasted and mute once again. Narrowed eyes watched as he again disappeared towards that hold. This only fueled her frustration and anger all the more. A glare towards a few of the nearby men who scuttled off to tend to their duties some distance from the wild woman. Turning to grasp the railing of the ship, that mulish nature of the Norse had her plant herself there. The mixture of water and air was nearly freezing as it touched exposed skin, but at this point she really didn't care.
He stayed down there for a while and when he couldn't take it any longer he went back up the ladder and looked around for her. His men pointed him in the direction and soon he was standing behind her" I love you and this isn't easy for me"
For a long moment she stood in silence, staring out at the open sea. Then slowly she'd turn to face towards him. "It wasn't easy for me either, but that doesn't seem to matter. Or at least that's how you make me feel." Her voice was soft, but not in a sultry manner. It was just a lowered tone to keep the conversation from eavesdropping ears.
"I'm sorry. Like I said we will be at a port tomorrow and you can leave. I would never hurt you on purpose Kat. " Shaking his head he took a deep breath" You have a room set up for you. Take your time."
For a long moment she stood there just staring at him and then a soft sigh as she turned to look back out over the sea again. "I'll bed down with my horse, I don't want to take another's space." Nor did she trust his crew, not so much with her horse. He could and would defend himself. It was more of what was inside that saddle bag.
Shaking his head he took her by the arm and pulled her to him." Your horse is fine, come to bed with me. I promise you I won't touch you." Leaning his forehead against hers
Being this close stirred old memories to life and when she closed her eyes to try and fight against it that only enhanced it more. "I want my saddle bag!" She was tired and cold and found the argument to be going nowhere. He said they'd be in port on the following day.
Letting her go he shook his head" then go get it and meet me in bed. I've had a long day and need to sleep. If you don't want to crawl in bed with me you have your own room near me." Kissing her forehead he moved toward the back of the ship and down the ladder to his room where he took off his shirt and climbed in bed. His head hit the pillow and though tired he was almost waiting to see if she would join him
Emotionless were those crystalline blues that followed after him. It was then with an irritated sigh she'd move towards some men. "Lead me to where my horse is so I can collect my belongings. I have no idea where anything is kept on this ship and I guess I have to fend for myself to get it!" That irritation was in that growled tone. One brave soul would lead her to where her equine awaited. The saddle bags collected, the man then lead her to the room that she was told about. No knock on the door as she pushed it open roughly, then slammed it in her wake. If he was asleep, then by Odin's name she'd be waking his ass up. Saddle bags tossed roughly to the floor. "Thanks for your assistance!" Stated in that sarcastic tone. Cloak tossed to the floor, she then flop down on it to begin removing her boots.
God’s love the woman he sat up some and looked at her" Stop talking and come here. I need the rest and so do you. " His hand reached out tugging her toward him.
Boots dropped as he snagged her for the second time this night, and tugged her towards him on the bed. "How dare you tell me to silence." Stated in a stern tone yet again as those icy pools of blue fixed upon him.
"If you didn't love me and want to be with me you wouldn't be in this bed. Our bed." a brow arched while he let her go and lay back down again.
"It's not like I have many options, now do I!?" A rhetorical question at best. A glare down at him, then she'd move to lay at his side, gruffly pushing against him to make him move over yet more. "I never said I didn't love you Alex. I buried you long ago as being gone."
Moving over he smiled looking at her" Only thing that's going to kill me is you. If I'm dead to you then tomorrow when you leave it’s up to you. " He wrapped his arm around her bringing her over to him" Until then tonight you are still mine"
A brow rose slightly as she glanced over at him. "I'm not something that is owned or bartered with. One had already tried to enslave and sell me off, unsuccessfully." A lot had happened during his absence, and was also one of the causes for her being more distant and colder than she was before. She’d keep some distance between them as she lay on her side. Still seething from the situation he placed her in, she’d eventually fall asleep and would be leaving the ship when they docked the next day. She had important matters to tend to and she would see them through.
It wasn't by sea that she had traveled, it wasn't her preferred way. Many times her jobs would take her to distant lands, and this would be one of those occasions. The price to be collected was a rare object which was worth more than a king’s treasure in more ways than one to certain individuals.
