A vast majority of the Eastern Badlands is an inhospitable, dry, desolate desert like atmosphere filled with stone, sand, scrubs and any flora or fauna tough enough to carve out a niche for existence in this unforgiving land. Due to its deeply inhospitable nature, it remains largely unexplored. This remains to the case due to the deeply religious Ogres of the mountains who regard the area as a holy place and routinely track down people who wonder into it. The Western Badlands are more mountainous in appearance and much less harsh in climate though far harsher in populace. Their mountainous nature creates a nature system of roads and valleys amongst the Labyrinth of hills that fill the gap between the mountain ranges to the North and South. This network of natural formations is filled with warring Orc Tribes whom also inhabit the Southern mountain range. If it were not for infighting amongst these two races, the area would be completely unlivable to humans. Thus, the center of the badlands its self are very uninhabitable and is home to only the heartiest of creatures and peoples.
Due to the harsh nature of the Badlands, the settlements that are within
the area usually lie just outside the badlands or within the mountains surrounding it. The Badlands and Dire Straits are ruled over by the Konigreich Monarchy; though receive significant political influence by Tugarabog, as well as the Ogre Kingdoms in the Northern mountain ranges. Konigreich is known for having a very potent, highly trained and well equipped military which is needed to survive with enemies so close at hand. They are also renowned sailors, shipwrights and for having an outstanding Navy.
Capital City of the Konigreich: Schiffstadt
Schiffstadt or, the city of ships, is a major port in the southern lands that ships goods to the surrounding cities, castles, towns and even such far places as Kiel and Dwergar. Schiffstadt is widely renowned as a city of learning and higher thinking that is often the location of ground breaking discoveries. The Royal Family that rules over the outlying area resides within Schiffstadt.
City: Flussvolk
Flussvolk lies to the North East of Schiffstadt and is deeper inland than any other city in the Badlands on the foot hills of the Northern and Southern mountain ranges, overlooking the great hills and valleys of the Eastern Badlands. Flussvolk and the trade routes that run from it towards the two towns in the North and South of the Badlands, live under constant threat of the Ogres and Orcs that inhabit the lands.
City: Hafenstadt
Hafenstadt is the northernmost city within the Realm of the Konigreich and like all cities within the Konigreich; it rests on the water proper and is part of the massive trade routes that populate the Southern oceans. Being the most Northern location in the Konigreich kingdom, they see the most trade with the Nation of Kiel.
City: Kustenstadt
Kustenstadt is the southernmost city in the Konigreich kingdom and due to its close proximity to the low mountains of the Dire Straits which, unlike the Mountain ranges to the North, have a remarkable lack of Ogres, also provides the kingdom with much of their supply of Iron and other metals.
Town: Holzdorf
This large town that rests in the far south next to the Bay of the Dead between Kustenstadt and Castle Schreienburg started as a logging settlement that harvested the nearby Skelettvald forest for lumber. However, it has grown to the point where it has become so large that it is on the verge of becoming a city. With its proximity to the mountains, it has become a bit of a mining town as well.
Town: Randorf
Randorf is a border town of the Konigreich and a major trading hub between them and the people of the plains, as well as a pit stop for the large trading caravans that are headed to the cities.
Town: Wustrand
This thriving community is far East enough to be safe from the bands of Orcs that inhabit the bad lands, and far South enough to avoid the terrible heat from the desert. Much of their trade is done by river that flows out in the bay of the dead. With their location so close to the mountains, they provide raw metals to the Kingdom.
Town: Haltenburg
Haltenburg was meant to be a foot hold within the mountains, a launching point from which to attack Ogres and hopefully clear them from the mountains. However, this has proven to be an extremely difficult task, as the only way they can get supplies is by ocean, which is on the other side of the mountains which are patrolled by Ogres. While the town is self-sufficient, its primary inhabitants are soldiers who have given the town the Nick-Name, Arg Einfall which means “Terrible Idea”
Castle: Strandhalten
Strandhalten Castle sits on the foot hills with mountains to its back and beaches to its front, making it a very difficult position to attack. It is also the primary staging point of Konigrieches inner defenses. It regularly has boats patrolling the Bay.
Castle: Festung
Festung is the one castle within the Konigriech kingdom that was not built by the hand of man. Indeed, local lore dates it far back before the current ruling family came to power. It is a massive structure that can be seen on the peaks of the mountains even from Flussvolk. While many scholars wish to delve into its depths, it is currently in the hands of the Ogre Kingdoms.
Castle: Schreienburg
Schreienburg was lost to the Konigriech several years ago after it was laid siege under by Tugarabog and taken from them. Despite several attempts to get the castle back, it has met with utter and complete failure. After two unsuccessful attempts and the loss of nearly two thousand men at the hands of Tugarabog, the ruling family decided to cut their losses. Sense then, Tugarabog has let them make use of the docs and nearby area as a military outpost and naval base of operations in return for a tax of each ship docked.
