(This is a follow up of an attack in Kiel's Port, associated with the Quest: Ledger of Rituals SL posted under the Port of Kiel.)
She knew not how long she remained in that underground hidden room. An hour, or hours had passed before she dared to continue onwards to make her way out to the coast line where a well placed door would emit her out onto a small private beach. This would be followed up into the dense forest that rested between it and the docks of Kiel. Slow would be her progress, unsure of what she might find or come across. One thing was for certain, she didn't wish to run into any of those undead creatures that laid siege upon the port in the dark of night.
As she neared, she could hear screams and sobbing coming from the area of the docks and market area. Closer she moved until she could get a visual, and proof that the surging factor was no longer a danger. Seeing none of the creatures bearing chains and shackles, nor the one that broke the door in on the Bloody Bore, it was only then she dared to exit from her cover of the forest and move upon the wooden surface of the docks that would in turn lead her to the market area and to her own tavern.
She was not prepared for what she witnessed, however she was not as affected by the view as many. Having spent many a year upon the decks of a Pirates' ship, she had witnessed her share of battles, maiming and tortured souls. This, however, was a senseless act, to which so many were left dead and missing.
Family members came forth to collect their dead and dying that laid upon the streets and dock of Kiel. By time all was said and done, 40 lost souls were placed upon funeral pyres and set ablaze. Their bodies given to their God Odin, by the way of Nordic tradition, although, in this case it was also to ensure the dead would not rise.
43 people were unaccounted for, and it was unsure if they were the ones taken captive by the undead ruled by the horrific creature of death, or had simply fled the area in fear for their life. There would be no way to validate which was true, unless some returned. None would dare the trek to the Badlands, nor into Dire Straights to follow after the legion of dead that captured members of the city.
It would be upon the return to the tavern that she'd be met by a gruesome sight. The door still laid within where it had been broken off from the hinges, and large holes were in the walls where the barbaric creatures of the Lich had busted through to get to those within. Littered on the floor was the bodies of those who sought protection within the tavern walls. To that earlier count, 10 more could be added, and that's just what she found on the first floor. Bringing the count of dead to the horrible number of 50.
She then remembered the women who ran to the upper levels, as well as the women who worked there, and she was unsure if they were unharmed or even still remained. Quickly up the stairs she made her way, then using her master key to open doors to let the women who were employed by her to sate the needs of men it was safe to come out. Then she found the group of women she had sent up to hide out huddled together in a single room. The windows and door had been locked, and curtains pulled tight over the window to obscure viewing into the room.
Quickly she rounded the women up that were not employed by the tavern and guided them out. One fainted upon seeing the carnage of the slaughtered men in the common room. Two screamed, the other five began to sob more. Now 8 had been found, which lowered the number of those unaccounted for to 35. Once the women were sent upon their way, some with their dead mate that was laying upon the floor in the tavern, she'd return to tend to the rest.
A few men of the docks who were friends in a sense to her, would come to help her see to the carting away of the bodies. To either be returned to their family, or given a proper sending in the way of the Nords. Some were sailors, their families unknown and living on distant shores. A few were travelers who had been visiting the markets, unknown would be where they traveled from.
Once the bodies were removed, next would come the cleaning of the blood that was splattered and coagulated on the floor, tables, walls, and removal of body parts. The door was totally destoryed, walls shattered as if they were nothing more than paper thin, repairs on a large scale to fix the structure of the damage it had endured. Several sailors, dockworkers, and steadfast patrons came to her aid in a time of need for rebuilding. It took only a matter of several hours for the destruction to take place. It would be a matter of at least days to remove the after affects completely as repairs and renovations took place.
She worked along-side the men, as well as the women who were in her employ, to clean the carnage left behind by the slaughter of the men who dared to stand up to the Lich and his undead minions. Curses she uttered under her breath, although she doubted they'd have any affect on creatures such as those.
One thing was for certain, if they returned, Carly would be prepared for them. She'd be sure to have the manpower and weapons to fight back against those vile and evil creatures, or anyone else who may think to attack the port city. There were those who might take advantage of the situation, in trying to make another attack thinking the city was weak and left unguarded.
She couldn't say if such was so for other areas, but in hers weakness would not be found, nor surprise. The wooden structure of doors would be replaced with Iron wrought enforced ones of a heavy thick hardwood creation. The hinges larger than before to take a brunt of pounding upon them. The same would be done of the interior walls of the lower level. Wide bands of wrought Iron to be attatched to the inner walls and outside, bolted to each other through the wood of the structures original build.
During this time she'd also send a missive to a particular Pirate Captain. Explaining what happened and what she witnessed. Not to call upon the Captain for aide, since by time the captain arrived there would be little the Captain or her men could do. It was by means of a warning that things were taking place, so that JD could watch out for any such attacks to take place on the Isles or at sea, or for things to be happening that were not considered normal; as normal as an area populated by pirates could be.
