The lineage behind the name Encinosa bled into the spaniard bloodlines. Corothius himself was involved enough with his elders and family to know that there was a considerable amount of ancestry in the roman empires spreading from italy throughout europe, even so far into spain where one of it's leading ranks has been rewarded with an investment of land to claim as his own, It was then his responsibility to obtain a family, and bring out his roots to develop through the ages. It was as well, in this birth of generations that the romans would meld into the spaniards in the lands that they now merged upon. The sturdiness and traits of nobility and warriors prowress well alive within Corothius' veins and activities as he passed boyhood and bled well itno his manhood. He though, had a few siblings who remained in the country of Spain. One a doctor who did incredibly well for himself in learning the necesities that a doctor would need to know to be acquitable to provide for a villages length of needs. It was as well though, that the other siblings were already married off and sprouting further their lineage whilst Corothius himself was at sea, in distant lands serving the country of Spain and it's king as was commanded.
There was in this time a war galley beneath his command. A few dozen men who served upon it. All were steadfast warriors who shared their time at the oars as well as the invasions upon territories the Spanish involved themselves upon. They were in the beginning of this time in the meditterranian, and circling about the northwestern length of Africa where jungles lingered. And their war galley would be left docked alongside armadas and other ships of varying sizes and strengths. The men beneath his command then taken as infantry units, armed and bedecked in the traditionals of roman warriors like a legion of spear brunting berserkers who over a span of years evolved into a more elite group of ambushers and hunters in these jungles where they were placed for duty. It was as well, that the standard gladius' were switched over, or merged into the found falcatus and other short blades that proved most versatile in the close quarters of woodlands, as well as upon their galley when the occasion would arise that they would be used to escort an armada along with a few other such small ships to aid in it's defense.
It was thus that these skilled warriors were called ontoa different duty after a time. They returning to their homeland to the beckoning messsage sent to them from their King. It was as well, that they would then be commmanded to escort another armada to it's destination to central america. Panama city, where Spain held its investment of gold. And armadas were being used to transport the bulk of riches back to their homeland country. It was thus, that they were beiung sent to escort it to such a destination. Further orders would be given upon arrival at the docks thereon.
It was perhaps a coincidence, that Corothius' brother, the doctor, sought passage to the carribean as well. it was known that doctors were not plentiful in the carribeans. With the numerous casualties, and piracies going amuck, the need for doctors was immense, yet their numbers scarce. It was thus, that his brother throught to make a name for himself, and would seek a village to aid and begin a career at to help. He though, would be travelling upon the armada which was moreso fitted for passengers, cargos etc. The armada as well would be holding the bulk of provisions that would be necessary for a galley to cross the atlantic. The formation changed as orders were directed by the captain upon the armada, a ship that few pirates would dare to attack due to its' size and strengths in cannons. Corothius though, was in charge of a ramming ship. it's name was Shadows Edge. They secreted themselves upon the seas at nighttime. Where they would then use the darkness to sneak up upon a known target, and bury the large steel ram at it's front to bury well into their prey's ships. The prey would of course sink, but time was usually available to do some sacking, killing, and their own bouts of piracy. Corothius though, was not wholly bent upon theivery upon the seas. The Shadows Edge was not a galleon, or any normal ship that held usage or preference of having cannons aboard their ships. They had only one, a swivel cannon that was able to slide upon the rails from one side along the front to the other as needed. It though, was rarely used. It was loud, and they prided themselves upon their secrecy, and remnant lingering in the darkness, unkonwn, until the charge of their ship would resonate into the walls of their prey with the splintering crash of wood before the sturdiness of a plowing steel blade.
It was thus...that they're duties though, would be completed. And secondary orders would be given for them to head towards the skull islands. It resembling the Jamaican islands where piracy was alive in a capital port city. They thus, were being sent to these islands to investigate the countries enemies. It was as they would come upon one of the northerly isles that an order would be issued to take to land. The oars remaining in their normal succession of strokes manned by trained and finessed warriors who weee loyal to their captain, well-fed, and able to jump from their benches to take up swords to defend the ship with, and loot others. It was thus..that an islands' shores would be careened upon. The bottom of the ship to be cleaned of barnacles and waxed down to allow them greater speed in the waters. A fe teams were sent out to explore. They would be in need of a location to build a fort upon. To fall back to and hide within, as well as to secret their loot when such a time would begin.
