It wasn't so much a dazed state in which she walked about in, more of a mixture between puzzlement and curiosity. Easily she blended in with those whom took to the streets at night. Tattered was the clothing upon her person, although, close inspection would prove it was at one time a most fashionable gown. Dirt smudged exposed skin, hair was slightly ratted and dull in that wild looking hairdo she was sporting. Quite the wild child she did indeed give the impression of, wandering seemingly aimlessly through the crowds of the market area. Lost perhaps some would think.
With the holiday coming up, Ice and Xan traveled through many different marketplaces just to see what goods were offered. There were always things Xan could pick up for his own shop and always things he could get for his children and all the nieces and nephews. This year, Xan would have two of his own to buy for and the adopted ones. Unique gifts for sure so they didn't insult. They rode in and dismounted just outside the bustling commons. This time he had lad see to the rubdown and feed of his stallion while they investigated the wares offered.
His own mount was taken care of in the same manner after they dismounted. This year was going to bring new experiences and he was thinking of giving his new family horses as well as other gifts. "They wouldn't be in competition with Rory of course, but horses increase their standing if they return to the colonies after all of this." He was uncertain of course, but that was still in the future. He narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked toward the market place. "Busy. That's a good sign." Also meant one needed to keep an eye on their money pouch.
There was something naggingly familiar about the area, although she just couldn't seem to grasp the why, or how. Moving onwards in that slow pace, she was suddenly jostled by a group of running youths, which had her stumble a bit to the side, placing her in the path of two comely gents. Bumping both as she sort of staggered past, a quick glance upwards to one, then the other. " 'scuse me Gov'nrs." Offered with an apologetic smile as she quickly moved to be out of their way.
"For that matter he could get the horses off of Rory. They would make perfect gifts as long as they didn't go buying wives with them. You have heard about Mat offering five buffalo skins and two horses for a lass. Luckily she refused, not that he wouldn't make a good husband and father." He hoped! "He's quite young." There was a flash in ice blue eyes full of amusement as Xan might need to talk to his sons about such things. Being a head about the rest around, he noticed a woman staggering right into them. Large hands caught her up and how his smile spread. "Carly!" Starting after her as she moved off. "Where are you going?" Something wasn't right for she would normally be giving them hugs. Was she that drunk? She was staggering.
"Yes, I've heard." He bit back his amusement. "And I've asked to talk to all three of them as soon as possible." He finally did chuckle. "I don't want to insult them but .... " His words trailed off when Ice caught the lass staggering. There was a face not seen for a while. "Evening, Carly." He frowned slightly as she started off and followed his brother.
It wasn't the sound of her name that gave pause, since it didn't ring familiar in her clouded mind. It was the ....where are you goin.... that captivated her attention to make her look back. A blank look upon smudged features. "I'm not sure Gov. It was an accident I assure you. My pardons again." A glance towards the other and then around her as he seemingly greeted someone. Perhaps the men were meeting a woman here, she'd not detain them further, so she turned to continue on her exploration, of trying to figure out where she was, and most importantly, who she was.
"We know you. Carly Basinstoke. Don't you remember me?Maurice and my brother Xander? What kind of accident? We were ones you called friends and I sure as hell don't want to lose such."
"I think she meant bumping into us." Xan said to his brother quietly, though he was watching Carly. Studying the way she looked, his distraction. "Carly, do you know where you've been and where you are now?"
It would seem they were following after ... her! Slowly she turned to gaze upon them both, her confusion fully registering upon features. They were dressed in the finest tailored clothes, and she looked like she'd been living on the streets for quite some time in her state of disrepair. "You know me?" Came the soft spoken inquire. It would be the last question posed to her that a response would follow. "I have no idea of where I am, who I am, or where I've been." Despair to now take place of that puzzled expression. "Do you really know who I am?" Hoping this wasn't some cruel joke to cover ulterior motives and intentions.
"I not only know who you are, I know where you live and I know one Captain that is like a sister to you. JD. Does her name ring a bell?" Ice blue eyes were intense at this point whiles studying her. "You have the two raccoons as pets. You do legal work, a lawyer, barrister." Hoping that any of these might catch hold on a deep rooted passion. "You're not married or with any man seriously that I know of." To ease any concerns there. Then again if she had been it would be news to him too!
He didn't add anything to Ice's words, just watched her expression while offering a sympathetic air. He glanced up at Ice then looked around the market. No one seemed to paying the least bit of attention to the trio. The two men acted like a wave break, sending the streams of people around the trio.
A look of surprise upon learning she was a Barrister? Then relief to know she did have a home, and it wasn't just a dream she'd been chasing. How she wish something that was imparted upon her would come to the forefront of her mind, but it was like everything else. Something hinted to being familiar, she was just unable to grasp it, which frustrated her further. "I wish I could remember." Slow deep intake of breath, shoulders slumped slightly. "I just can't. I've felt so lost, at least now I have a name." Some may think that trivial, but to her at the moment, it was like a life raft to cling to.
"How about we take you back to the Thistle Tavern which is not far from where you live. Get you a good meal and some clean clothes for they have the extra there. They have rooms where you can wash up, feel like a woman again. You don't recognize us at all?" His eyes were very distinctive in their coloring.
"You'll see others who know you there as well. Maybe seeing them and having a good night's rest will help some." He didn't know much about amnesia save it usually was caused by some trauma. "Are you hurting anywhere at all?" He studied her again for signs of dried blood on her clothes or in her hair.
Food. She hadn't even thought about it until it was brought up. In that, realization of just how hungry she was also presented itself. A glance down at herself, she surely didn't appear to be a woman of standing at the moment. A slow nod of her head in agreement. "Familiar settings may help me to remember." Keeping hope alive. Looking up into Ice's eyes, he could tell the amount of concentration she was putting into this, then she sighed and slowly shook her head. "No, I'm sorry. I don't." Looking then to Xan. "I've got some bruises, scrapes and cuts. Nothing considered mortal in damage. I'm not sure how I got them, it's how I awoke this morning on the beach." There was that too which she couldn't remember, just how she got there. It was apparent she wasn't far from home. Question upon question filled her already clouded mind. Where she should feel rejuvenated in learning of herself, she only found herself to be more exhausted.
"That is what I am hoping for." He noted the lad that had taken care of his stallion as he gave a sharp whistle for him to get his horse a little sooner than planned. This was important as the two could always come back another time. "At least we can keep you safe until you get your memory back and if not, we'll find a way to help." He thought of Andrew as he might be good in many Druids ways, he'd not mess around with a mind and take that chance. He was not as good as the other. The lad brought his stallion and Xan's as he soon gave him the extra coin. "You can ride with me," as he offered her a hand up.
He was glad to hear she wasn't hurt beyond minor injuries. Mounting his horse, he waited for Ice to lead the way. He'd bring up the rear, watching as they rode. The Thistle would be the best place for her to stay until she felt ready to return to her home. They could take her there when she was ready. Something there might help bring back her memory.
Taking his hand, she'd gaze up at him once more, looking into his eyes, trying so hard to place them. Eyes then shifted to the horse she was about to mount. It just wasn't going to happen yet, something would have to jar her memory at some point, wouldn't it? Upon the horse's back she'd climb, then attention turned upon Xan. Trailing his features with her eyes, again searching for anything familiar. She had to admit, the men had the most distinctive eyes, perhaps that was what was naggingly familiar, yet unable to fully grasp. Just more of a puzzle to figure out.
They would send a note to JD, or at least the tender at her portside bar as he might know how to get it to her. He was up behind her, sthingying her in against his chest as arms went around her to keep her steady, reins wrapped in gloved hands as heels nudged the stallion into a canter taking them back to the Thistle

The sound of hooves against cobblestone would herald their approach before they were reined in. Ice was down from his mount as he helped Carly off, carefully. She may have stated there were not that many injuries but he'd not be wanting to find out she was covering it up. "I am sure you will regain your memory. Do you know how long you've been awake not knowing? A day, a week?"
As he dismounted and the stable boy came over, Xan spoke to him while Ice tended to Carly. He turned once he was finished, knowing the horses were in good hands. He was interested in the answer she'd give.
The duration of the ride was used in searching all they passed. Tinges of familiar would work it's way through, but soon dissipate into that confused state. There was something that rang familiar, and she found it quite strange, enough she wouldn't voice it at the present. A weak but grateful smile to the man who helped her off the horse. Once upon solid ground, she'd glance around the area to seek that one thing that would kick start her memory. Nothing! Looking back to Ice when he asked her the questions. "Four days now I think, perhaps five. The first few are a bit cloudy. I just remember how weak I felt and how hard it was for me to walk for awhile. As if my legs had been drained of all their strength. I know I was thirsty, painfully so, but unable to keep the water down I found to drink for awhile. I began to worry I was dying of some horrible disease."
He escorted her up the steps and into the tavern as the oaken door was swept aside. The air was getting a bite to it now that it was going on evening. He was frowning that so many days had passed already. "I'm sure once we get some food into you, get you cleaned up and into dry clothes it will help." Maybe not bring back her memory at the moment but certainly feel better. "We have a good doctor by the name of Barrington." Motioning to Alex who greeted Carly by name, to get a bowl of the Irish stew for her which of course came with the brown bread. "She will need a room to take a bath and clean up too," to which Alex nodded as a key was set out. "There are clothes in the first room on the right, of something that will fit. They are donated and kept here for any such circumstances."
He closed the door behind them as Ice guided her in. "Be a good idea for you to see him, make sure there's nothing unseen." He leaned against the bar, studying her again.
Kizzie stirred as she heard the door open, and felt a cold breeze sweep into the room. As a voice started in, she sat up in daze before gently rubbing her eyes with her hands. She hadn't met anyone of the people entering yet, but she didn't want to interrupt what was going on. Finally, she got up from her spot and walked over to the group. "I heard you talking about a doctor. I'm not one, but is there anything I can do to help?" Sound advice, of that she knew. The scent of the stew that Alex placed before her, ignited that hunger within to the point of being painful. Restraint was used to not simply dig into the bowl of food like a heathen. She started out taking small bites and chewing them slowly, she was a Barrister after all, constraint should be maintained. Although, the hunger won out in the end, and it was nearly a frenzied state she'd consume her meal. To hell with manners, she was hungry. Wiping the bowl clean of gravy with the bread as she pushed the bowl over to an amazed Alex. He'd never seen her in such a state before. "More, please." Stated around that piece of bread that was popped into her mouth. She wasn't ignoring the woman, just fixated on the ideal of a hot meal and the pain in her stomach being dealt with at the moment. It would be the mug on the bar that awaited her that she now stared at. Was it not just last night she remembered that small, what she thought to be, insignificant thought? A drink, one created of coffee, Bushmills, cream and chocolate. Irish coffee to be exact, a drink who's ingredients came to mind when she was at that other tavern. The very same drink that was placed before her by the tender. Looking up at Alex, then back to the mug. Questions later, the mug was grabbed and she began to slowly drink it's contents.

"Well, yes. Maybe you can help Carly Basinstoke here. I am Maurice McDonough of the cattle ranch and this is my brother Xander. She's been banged up pretty bad in whatever happened to her. A lass to help to make sure she doesn't faint while bathing is far more proper." He cleared his throat as ice blue eyes flashed from one to the next to include them all. "We'll get her to the doctor to check her out at least. I think if her memory is to be jarred, JD will be the one to do it."
"It's a pleasure to meet all." Looked over towards Carly with a small smile. "I'd love to help the miss in anyway I can." She dipped her head down before looking back up to all three. "My name is Kezia Cohen. However, you may call me Kizzie."
The second bowl was made short work of, although not in the same frenzied manner as the first. Now her stomach ached for another reason, she was full. A second mug of Irish coffee would be set before her also. This would be lifted as she turned to face the others. What's really sad is that she felt like an outsider at the moment, not realizing quite yet the depth of the friendship shared with the two. A nod of her head to the woman and a weak smile offered for her kindness. "Thank you Kizzie." Since the woman asked to be called by that. Then a blink and glance over to Ice. "Am I that weak of a woman that I have tendencies to fainting spells?" It was a genuine question.
He recognized the name as he'd scanned the everyday memos from the castle. She was one of the new citizens. "A pleasure Kizzie, welcome to the lands." Ambassadors would have such info. "You can call me Ice if you wish." He went by either. "Not on the norm, Carly, but with your staggering at the marketplace, banged up bruises and scratches and obviously your head has been hit to lose your memory, it is a possibility. Hindsight is always best to go with. Kizzie can help check you out too in case you need a doctor immediately."
"Oh! That's good. For some reason I think I don't like those type of people." Just a gut feeling. A meager smile and attention was back on Kizzie. "I appreciate your offer, and I honestly don't wish to be a bother." A bit embarrassed in the fact that a stranger was tending to her. A true stranger since all were introduced to the woman, and she in return. "Maybe I can find some answers to the mountains of questions I have when I'm done." A glance towards Xan, and then Ice when this was spoken. Presently the two who seemed to know her.
"Thank you for your welcome, Ice." Before turning her gaze towards Carly. "Don't be silly. I'm here to help, bubule. However, if you do not wish to be attended to by me then I'll respect your wishes."
"I'm sure the company of two comely gents far out weights babysitting a woman who can't even remember her own name." Meant to make light of the situation. "If you'll excuse me, I think I'll make use of that room and bath now." Key collected from the bar, a glance to make note of the room number, before she was crossing the way to head into that direction. Still looking around, fleeting glimpse of familiar things were ebbing into her mind.
The stew looked too good to pass up as he ordered himself up a large bowl with the brown bread. A sliding glance to Xan before he was taking up a tankard of ale to wash down the dusty trail. Long overdue thirst was being quenched. Carly, stubborn even when she didn't have her memory! Why wasn't he surprised although still very concerned. "She's always stubborn like that." He couldn't help adding.
"Call me Xan." He smiled at Kizzie then turned her attention back to the others, offering Carly a smile as she left. "At least that hasn't changed." A chuckle added before he lifted his glass for a drink.
"If you're not back down on the half hour, I'll come up after you!" There, that would solve the issue if Kizzie didn't wish to lock horns with the stubborn one.
Glance back at Ice, and a pause. "A knight in shining armor." Offered with a bit of a smile before she'd disappear up those stairs. Stopping first to gain herself a new gown to adorn after cleaning, then onto the room with the awaiting bath.
She had left her room earlier when none seemed to be around. She had ventured some local places. Out of pure curiosity and nothing more. Secretly of course, as she never knew who she would run into. The cloak was drawn over her face almost completely. Just enough for her to see, as she moved within the tavern doors. Pulling it back when she now felt safe. Bits of snow would fall to the floor upon her removing the garment. "It's a full moon out there. Beware of what the mystical forces it may hold."
"Yes it is and that means all the crazies are out." Or so it seemed at times. Such a wicked grin and the flash of ice blue eyes the woman's way as she entered speaking. "Good evening to you too."
She unwraps some type of crystal ball thing she had found. Thinking it was neat. She was trying to be all mystical, and yet teasing all at the same time. A smile was on her face, as she did a half curtsy. Was hard doing since she held some glass ball in her hand. "At least that is what the gypsy woman that I bought this from said." A slight bit of laughter.
"I know a few people that are stubborn like that." Kizzie couldn't help but watch the stairs after the woman walked up them. As she placed her hands on her hips, she looked towards the door with a grin. "Shalom Kaleah." Glancing back to Ice."I take offense to that, Sir!"
Draven came in from the side corridor where the storage rooms held the wines and cider. He was taking a quick inventory and mental note to have a few more cases sent up. He was shrugging out of his cloak as he entered the main room. Fisherman's sweater in a nice wheat cable knit was worn over brown pants, boots lacing up midcalf had the stains of mud along the edges of the soles. "Evening." Cordially as ever as he rounded the bar and waited for the glass of potcheen.
"Now why would you take exception to that?" He chuckled at Kizzie, studying her then taking a drink. Glass was lowered when he saw Draven. "There's a face I've not seen for a while. Evening, Draven."
She moved to get a towel, and set the glass object onto it. It had a bluish tent to it, and looked like a plain glass ball. "Kizzie!" She said her name a bit loud. Perhaps she was excited to see her. At least she was one face she knew. Moving over toward her to give her a slight hug. Not wanting to seem to mushy. "Milord's, and Milady's"
At least it was laughter and not cackling! A hand coming to Draven's shoulder. "Good to see you cousin." Then lowered words he told him quickly about Carly so he was aware.
He was distracted but that brought him around and a grin to follow. "Ice, Xan, good to see you both. You two have been missed being around." Knowing well how busy they got. Anything else stilled upon his lips as he listened to what Ice had to say. Brows furrowed with a slight nod at the end.
Ah, the luxury of a hot bath, how comforting and soothing it should have been. The sensation of warm water inching up cool flesh, that was until she had submerged herself within the tub's depths. Panic, a gripping fear washed over her, and brought to a quick end that relaxation, as the tub's side was settled upon the finish out the chore. Soon scrubbed clean, hair and body rid of the dirt that caked upon them. A soft peach colored muslin gown, the sash about the waist to be that of a forest green. Hair brushed to now fall in damp waves over shoulders, she'd make her way back down into the tavern, only to find more people had arrived. This could be good, or bad, depending on who they were, if they knew her, and if all was well or not between them. She'd soon find out as she continued towards her previous position at the bar.
Moving over to the bar and getting her normal drink for the evening. Tea it was usually, and that is what was ordered. Gazing at the glass, and then over to the rest of them. "Not sure what it does yet. But I figured it would make a great conversation piece." Said in general to anyone that might had been listening. "Kizzie, have you met Draven?" Which reminded him he didn't know the other woman. "I'm Maurice or Ice and this is my brother Xander and my cousin Draven. Just hope it doesn't have anything bad or it will set off Andrew's wards." So in that she was protected if the old woman she got it from had malice on her mind.
Snapping out of her daze, Kizzie shook her head to send those brown curls bouncing. "No. But it's a pleasure Draven." A quick smile was flashed towards the group, and back at the woman who was entering again. "I should be off. This crazy needs her beauty sleep."
"A pleasure to meet you Kizzie," eyes were that kind of blue too although darker than his cousin's. "Miss," greeting the other he had yet to learn her name before Carly was noticed. He pushed away from the bar towards her, pausing outside her personal space. "I'm another you use to know, Draven."
The introductions were not really directed toward her. However, it was enough that they were being done that she felt compelled to at least give them her name as well. "I am Kaleah." Looking to Kizzie, and seeing her preparing for departure. "So many names I have learned lately. If I forget anyone's, please forgive me." After all she had met more people in the short time she was here, than it seemed in the last few months.
Seems she spent too much time in that tub, returning to hear Kizzie was making off. "Thank you for your kindness earlier Kizzie. Even if old memories are lost, you have given me a fresh one to begin with." Polite smile offered.
"Ah, running off so soon, Kizzie. Another time then." It was good to be out after recent events.
"Stay safe Kizzie, nice to meet you." Smile her way as well a dipping glance that took her in wholly in visual. Those chestnut pools turned to meet the ocean blues of Draven's. Hearing his introduction, she almost offered her own newly learned name in return. Catching her actions, she couldn't help but to smile a little. She had to find something silly in the midst of all the confusion, or she'd simply go mad. Brows furrowed slightly as she met his gaze once more. "You seem more familiar than the others. I know I know you, but not why or how. Your eyes are more familiar, as if I seen them in a dream." Okay, someone said the crazies are out tonight? Maybe Carly should be listed along with them?
"Good night Kizzie." Cordially as she was off in a hurry. Kizzie dipped her head down as she took her leave. Pausing at the door only to turn around to offer a silent. "Shalom alechaym." She then opened the door, and ventured out into the cold. "We shared some time together a long time ago. I showed you the land granted where you built your manor home. You first stayed in a small cabin inhabited by two raccoons. We had dinner together and a canoe ride." "I haven't seen it do anything." She was referring to the ball once again, and then wondered if she had brought something evil to the place. That was not her intention. Now she worried, and thought of getting rid of the blasted thing. "Do you think it could?" If anyone answered yes, she would be outside burying the thing in the snow somewhere.
She'd search his eyes for a moment more, then offered a weak, yet genuine smile. "At least I'm finding things familiar, that's a good sign is it not? Perhaps soon all will come back to me." Brows furrowed slightly. "I'm just not sure if I want to remember it all." Mug on the rise and a slow sip of the Irish coffee to be taken.
"I think it would likely depend on the user. I would suggest caution however if you've never touched such before." Xan smiled easily as he looked over at her. "I'm sure it is fine. Maybe a good luck crystal. They are used for such things as keeping one's health, warding off bad vibes and so on." He was keeping track of Carly's conversation too.
"No, I just thought it was pretty." Said honestly and thought the old woman just wanted a sale at her little booth. Saying anything to earn money. "Well, I won't touch it. Perhaps one that knows about these things can get good use of it." A slight shrug as she turned away from the thing. "Well I hope it is what you said it is Milord." Looking toward Maurice direction.

"That is a very good sign. You could see something that would trigger everything open or wake up one day soon with it regained. I think if we get you caught up with JD, it would jar it." Or JD might shake it into her! "You and her are very close. You're one of the few she'd die for I'd say."
Which reminded him to have Alex send off a note to the one managing JD's tavern down at the port. He'd know where to reach the elusive Captain.
She was up the steps and in the door, briskly closing out the cold chill behind her. One hand was holding the folds of her cloak at the flat of her breast while her other held a open a small piece of parchment, green gray eyes focused intently upon it. Of course, as soon as took a few steps inside, she looked up and took in account of those present. "Good evening, everyone." And a small smile of recognition towards Kaleah.
If nothing else, maybe the game of bowling would be invented.
A puzzled look. 'You said you took me out on a canoe. Am I not afraid of water?" Again that name was brought up to her. "I wish I could remember her. Hellfire, I wish I could remember something, anything." Exasperated motion of hand. "Strange that." Almost mumbled as her attention shifted to the mug in hand. "In the tub, I succumbed to panic, a sheer dread, when I became submerged."
"You were not then that I know of. It even tipped over after the bears startled you." He was recalling as he shook his head. "No, I do not believe you were for you were laughing. You would have an office here in the back to make use of, or had some time ago. Maybe there would be something there that might trigger your memory?"
"Milady Jessamine." A curtsy given to her upon her arrival. Having only met her yesterday. But the woman seemed very nice. Getting her tea, and setting upon a table. She now thought of ways to strike up conversation. She wasn't so good at that. Give her a couple weeks, and she would be a chatter box.
Carly seemed to have opened up more with Draven here. He glanced at Ice before a nod was given in Jessamine's direction. "Good evening, miss."
At Kaleah's cordial greeting, she paused in her steps to return the bobbed curtsy. "My lady Kaleah." And she glanced towards the gentleman's voice. A smile to him and she curtsied to him as well, her head tipped forward before rising. "Sir."
"Then it came afterwards, perhaps a near drowning?" That would make sense if she had a phobia now. "Where did you first find yourself?"
"I'm Xander, my brother Maurice or Ice, cousin Draven and the lady is Carly." He motioned to each.
Glancing up at him. "On the beach, just south of the moors. The waves would come up to my waist when they came ashore, it's what woke me up." Upon hearing her name offered, a glance would be sent in Xan's direction, then towards the ones she was being introduced to. "G'eve." Offered with a weak, yet genuine smile.
So many names to remember! Her eyes touched on each face as she repeated the name in her mind before she was sinking into another curtsy, much lower than before. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintances. I'm Jessamine."
"Evening Jessamine, nice to meet you."
She nodded. "And you, Lord Draven."
He drew in a breath to ease out. "Then that is probably why. It seems maybe you had been on a ship and then into the ocean before being washed up. Was there a storm and a shipwreck?"
"Well met, Jessamine." He gave a quick, single nod of his head. Glass brought up for another drink, he looked in Draven's and Carly's direction again.
He was studying Carly before ice blue eyes turned upon the newest. Her name too was recognize in all those memos read. A grin tucked within the thick russet beard. "Evening Jessamine, nice to meet you."
She sipped her tea, and still strained on bringing up an interesting topic. At least showing she was sociable. It was hard, because she was a bit shy. But she was trying desperately to get over that.
Another slow sip of her Irish coffee as she thought hard on this, trying to remember something. Anything! Frustrated sigh and slow shake of her head. "I don't know. I wish I could remember something, but nothing comes up." Frown to mar her brow. "Maybe someone knows something, at least when they last spoke to me, or seen me. anything that can help me piece things together and maybe jar something in this thick head of mine." Even in frustration, a joke made. Even amnesia couldn't hinder the personality that made her who she was.
"Good evening, Lord Maurice." When she saw those eyes, she paused and just...stared. Did every man in Heathfield have such beautiful eyes?!
She looks to Carly and seems to have seen her in passing. Not formally meeting her. But still her face seemed familiar. "Were you a captain of a ship perhaps?" Ok, it was a long shot, and if the woman's memory was fading. It was a very stupid question to ask. But at least it was one to know that she was trying to help the woman.
Xan's introduction had been meant for anyone who did not know them.
"I don't think you can force your memory back. It will only frustrate you. I think the last person you saw here was Brogan Frasier for legal matters. If seeing Maurice, Xander and myself doesn't do anything then the best chance you'll have will be when you see JD. She is being sent for and hopefully it will catch up with her before too long." Not wishing to discourage her but JD could take a while to find unless she wanted to be found. Then poof, she's standing there at your side.
Focus would turn upon Kaleah and she'd shrug. "I'm not sure, he ..." Pointing at Ice.."...told me I'm a Barrister, so unless I was moon lighting, I'd have to say no?" Looking back to Draven "Then perhaps this Brogan Frasier could shed some light, if he could remember how long ago that was. Unless you do?"
Ok, maybe not. She wasn't sure anyhow. It was a stab in the dark. Perhaps seeing her at the docks or something, and Kaleah's wild imagination placed her as a captain. Not ever seeing the woman on an actual ship. "Hmm." Said as a passing thought.
Stepping up to the counter, she tipped a smile to Alex. "If you could give me a warmed brandy, please. And has anything else been brought for me?" Briefly flashing the card in her hand to him in explanation.
"Somewhere back in July I think." So it was some time. "We thought you went off with JD who hasn't been around as long either."
Hopefully the two hadn't been together.
"July!?! What month is it now?" Just now realizing she wasn't even sure of the time.
"Today is the beginning of Advent." Offhandedly to Carly.
"December, the third." Which she might notice some holiday decorations up like mistletoe way up in the corners of the room where they couldn't be reached much less catch one under. Maybe someone had wallflowers in mind?
She glanced out the window to pass time. Seeing the snow flutter to the ground as she then looked at the woman. Thinking snow was far from July. But heck there were sandy white beaches. Oh how she loved the spring time.
A slow blink as the time was ticked off in her mind. "Four months? The last time anyone seen me was four months ago?" Hypothermia has a way of distorting one's view, add all the other little complications being dealt with, it's a d**n miracle she's even alive. Someone or something looked out after her.
Forgetting the name of the person, and it was something to ask. "Does anyone know where, and who the stables master is?"
The brandy arrived with nothing else by way of notes, she settled onto a stool, one hand raising the snifter to her lips while the other continued to hold open the parchment card, brows furrowed in thought.
"Ice and I were away a good potion of that time." Which would explain why they hadn't seen her.
"My son Rory has the stables as part of our ranch. What would you be needing lass?"
"I was thinking on purchasing a horse. Along with the lessons it would take me to ride it. A slight chuckle, but it was true. But it was far better than walking everywhere.
"More like five but that is not unusual if you were with JD on one of her missions and she is the Captain of the Black Swan, I think the name is." Mussing it over as he calculated.
"This woman, JD that I am friends with is a sea captain? What about her? Has anyone seen her around? Is there any way to verify if I was aboard her ship? If so, where it might have been sailing towards?" So many questions arising, causing a deeper furrow of brows as she tried hard to remember.
He shook his head. "The only one that would know that is the tender down at tavern you worked in at the port. His name escapes me but maybe if you go down there he will be able to help you out."
That made her blink as she looked at Draven. "I tended bar? Am I Barrister or a bar tender?" Now she was really confused. A glance towards Ice, then back to Draven. "Then that's my next destination. How do I get there?"
"A horse I can get you but lessons, I know he doesn't have time but maybe someone else can help you with that part. Obviously a tame filly would do you best."
"You are a barrister first, you managed the bar for JD when she was gone more than tended it. James or something is the tender's name."
"Yes, of course Milord. I don't wish to trouble anyone. Even someone witting them down on some paper." Thinking that would do. Having no clue.
"Well, I can see if my son will see you tomorrow then and at least get you the horse you need. That's a start and go from there."
Like a dry sponge absorbing water, she was taking in all the information being offered. "I've been told I live not far from here, do I live at this tavern too?"
She smiled. "Thank you kindly. That would be greatly appreciated. He is fair with his prices, yes?" Looking down, as she said that. Wishing she had not.
Biting down on her lower lip, she left the snifter on the countertop to slip her hand into the folds of her cloak, extracting a leather-bound journal and opening it before her.
"No, you lived in your home built by the sea on the cliffs. If you stayed at the tavern, I would not know but possibly if you were working long hours." He could not say one way over the other but her primary residence was in the manor.
"Of course. Rory is very fair." Smile once more tucked as he studied her a moment longer before glancing to Jessamine. "Do you have a shop too, Jessamine?"
"Were we lovers?" Out of the blue that came. She couldn't help the feeling of closeness she felt with him, might as well go through the process of elimination to learn all she could. Ice said she was single, perhaps something from the past was being remembered? Only one way to find out and she had enough to unravel, no sense in pulling punches.
Alas, Xan had chosen that time to take a drink and Carly's words had him choking.
She glanced up, hearing her name. "Hm? Oh, no. Regrettably, I have no real trade."
That had him clearing his throat but a laugh followed. "Your personality has not changed one iota even if your memory is not intact yet." He would tell her straight too. "You and I started to see each other more than just friends but we never slept together. Another drew your attention more; I one day found you with and the relationship more in depth so I backed off. I don't know what happened to this other male but I don't think he stayed in your life." Now he could calmly relate what happened.
"I would not mind sharing. I mean it took me a long time to save. But I think I may have enough now." She smiled to Jessamine. Then moved up to fetch a book from the miniature library.
That had her looking at him puzzled, something he said hit home, and it wasn't a pleasant feeling that accompanied it. "I was told I was single, so evidentially he never did." Brows furrowed as she turned to set her now empty mug on the bar. "I'd like to get directions to this tavern .... you spoke about, and to my home." How strange that sounded to her.
"And you, sir? What do you do? I mean, do you have a shop or a trade in particular?"
He really didn't know what happened when she took off with this other man instead. "Who told you, you were single?" So she had run into someone else that knew her? "I can take you down to the tavern as right now it might be better you stay where there are others just in case what happened wasn't a threat on your life."

"He did!" Pointing out Ice. Looking back to Draven. "A threat on my life? Why would my life be in danger?" Did she have something she needed to worry about?
"Laird Maurice McDonough, head of the McDonough clan, Ambassador to the Crown and I run a cattle ranch with my brother Joseph." That sparkle reached blue eyes the whole time he rattled off such titles even if some were earned. She wondered if it was the same people, or this was just pure luck that all this was happening here. "You know. Perhaps we all should pay for a guard's salary. Just outside the town? I would be willing to put off that horse."
"I said, just in case. You wind up on the beach half in and out of the water. Scratches and bruises along with your memory gone. I think the possibility of someone having tried to harm you cannot be ruled out."
Her stomach clenched and she swallowed. Sliding from the stool, she slowly dropped into another curtsy before him. "My apologies, my lord. I am new here; I did not know... of course, ignorance is no excuse, but..." Much like her sister, her face flushed in embarrassment.
He grinned as he watched for Jessamine's reaction. Dark blue eyes turned to Kaleah. "There are guards that patrol the roads, the docks and other areas of the realms. We are not without protection within it's borders, the borders of Ballicastle, Tyremoor, Innis Daingneach and Kildare."
He was laughing as she'd find herself up from that curtsey and into a bear hug. Something else he was good at before releasing her. "I and my family have been in these lands a long time. When I was first here I sat around looking good." Now he was bullnutsting, but it came so easily.
A glance towards Jessamine when she seen her actions. "They don't like formalities here. All are equal in a public setting." A blink and a glance to each present, then to Draven. "Is that correct?" Was something coming back to mind?
She gasped as she was pulled up, figuring that was all the contact that would happen, but at the hug she froze, green gray eyes tipped up at him in shock. She hadn't been here for even a month and she'd gotten two hugs within the last day!
"Yes it is. And that is not the usual for most lands. I would say it is a very good jar of your memory."
"Of course Milord. How thoughtless of me to think otherwise. I just think this is just too much by chance of luck. There seems to be a lot of us that are weary."
"More hope." This time her smile wasn't so weak. "I'd like to stay at my home tonight. Maybe that would help being in a more personal setting." All had told her she had animals there, maybe being with them would help. Although none would know until they got there, that they were all gone, except for the two coons. None would think to remove a wild animal to cover their tracks.
"There's no reason to apologize. You're new to the lands." Though the docks were a tougher area than anywhere else.
Devon came hobbling in, hopping in her good foot most of the time, Jasper already bounding in and shaking the snow off him. "Evenin' Everyone" she said with a smile in their directions as she hopped to the bar.
Even the guards were wary in the dock areas. Hell, if anyone was to meet JD, they'd more than understand!
She glanced over seeing the hug, and then to the book she hadn't opened yet. "My, you are friendly people here." She laughed slightly, then glanced back at Xander. "Indeed. Although I wish to sail once again. I think my fears prevent me to do so."
Quietly spoken to Ice then once she found her voice again. "Do you not sit around looking good now?" Brows lifted ever so slightly.
"Only if I can't help it." Giving a waggle of his brows and the roguish grin tucked easily within the thick beard again.
"Which would be quite frequently if not all the time, I would think... sir."
A curtsy to Devon. Nice seeing her again. Just paying her respects as she did the others. "Milady Devon. Good to see you once again as well."
"Fears can be overcome in time." He was amused by his brother and the lass talking. "Devon! Good evening!"
"I can have a carriage ready for you when you decide to head home. They will know the way as you are known here in these lands. Many friends, Carly or Carlotta." Maybe her full name would jar something. "The tavern is down at the port not far from Xander's place. Dockside Tavern and Inn. Devon, you remember Carly?" He was over to give her a hug being her adopted big brother.
She turned her head in the direction of Kaleah's voice as she hung up her coat. "Pleasure ta meet ye again Kaleah." Then started the hop to a barstool.. albeit slowly. "Evenin' Xander, ye handsome one. Glad ta have ye back home."
"It's good to be home. I understand you met my sons." He placed his empty glass on the counter, shaking his head at Alex.
Glance spared towards the woman and dog which entered. A nod of her head and a polite smile. "G'deve." Seemed all here knew the woman, did she too? Looking back to Draven. "Thank you Draven for your kindness." The tavern's name would be set to memory, what she had of it now. Attention was back upon Devon when he moved to hug her and prove that the woman was indeed known onto her. "It's good to know I have many friends, especially when any enemies I may have the upper hand at the moment, being I have no clue to who they are, or why."
She set the book down. Thinking she would read it later. For now it would seem she was a bit distracted. "Fears can be overcome. But sometimes they like haunting for a while."
She smiled at that as she finally reached a stool. "Aye, I did. Interestin' they both are." to say the least! Then was wrapped up in the hug from Draven. "Aye, I do. Pleasure ta meet ye again Carly."
A large work roughen hand was up to rub at his beard before falling away to rest against the edge of the bar. "Flattery will get you everywhere it is said." Wink tossed in before his drink was tossed back and another refilled. "Evening Devon, good to see you again."
Devon picked up on something but wasn't sure what exactly wasn't right about it all. "What am I missin'?" She turned her head towards Maurice's voice. "Evenin' Ice. Glad ta hear ye about again." Said with a smile for him before turning back to Draven and Carly.
She smiled, dipped her head to her, and finally stepped away and back onto her stool. Devon's greeting would come later; for now, she was searching the parchment as if it held a clue that she hadn't seen yet, brows furrowed in concentration.
They were that. He chuckled and said nothing more as others greeted her. "Patience is the key, Kaleah. Always." Even if it took 18 years.
"It seems that Carly has had some accident which has taken most of her memory but some things seem to be coming back for her." "Then I think I need many keys." Another slight laugh as she glanced to the window. Something scurrying along the snow caught her attention. It had her standing and looking out.
"Oh my goodness. I'm sorra ta hear that. If there be anythin' I can do, please let me know." Jasper of course chose that moment to come up to Draven wanting attention, and from Carly as well. He's greedy.
She'd scritch the top of Jasper's head and offered Devon a smile. "Thank you kindly lass, I appreciate that. Just spending time with you hopefully will help a lot. Maybe something said or done that will trigger one into the forefront of my mind." Now mind you, she hasn't realized that Devon is blind yet, even if in her right mind she knew.
He crouched down to pet Jasper up. "How've you been ole boy. You've been taking care of my sister?" Which had him grinning then too as he looked up Devon's way. "I hear things are going really well between you and Allan." He was pleased for them both.
She seen darkness upon the snow. What seemed like blood. It was hard to tell what was out there. But it looked hurt, and Kaleah just had to big of a heart to just not go out there. Rushing to put her cloak on. She rushed out the snow. Not even thinking twice.
She was on her feet and moving towards the books that Kaleah had gone to visit, fingers dancing across the spines of the books, scanning the titles.
She nodded and gave Carly a smile, thought it wasn't exactly at her. "Well I hope anythin' I do helps. Ye helped me out once and I hope ta be able ta repay the kindness." She then smiled back at Draven. "Aye, they are...." she said blushing a little. "Oh! And ye havenae met Matt yet! He's back... " She nudged him a little too. "And I hear the same about ye and Miss Tara too..." she teased, happy for him as well.
"I did? Please, pray tell, how so? Maybe it will cause me to remember something." Falling silent then when Draven and Devon spoke.
"I would like that. Maybe I can come over some night, bring Tara with me and visit. I could bring someone for Matthias too," now who was teasing! He was up from his crouch position and his petting of Jasper who now was over to Xander for more.
"oh ye!" she chided teasingly. "I dinnae think that would be a good idea." Then turning back to Carly. "Several months ago, I needed some legal advice from ye."
"Oh!" Hand lifted to thwart and further discussion. She had sense enough to know legal matters were also private. "I hope I did well." A bit of a sheepish grin.
He chuckled and crouched down to give the dog a good dose of attention, scratching behind his ears, roughing him up and talking to him softly.
Jasper was in husky heaven. She sighed, not finding anything on the shelf that would help her. Thus, she moved back across the bar towards her deserted stool and drink. "Good evening, Miss Devon? Good to see you again so soon."
"You seem lost?" Leaving the comment open for her to add or not to it.
"Ye did very well, as best as anyone could given the circumstances." it wasn't really resolved complete, but that wasn't anyone's fault. The turned to Jessamine. "Evenin' Miss Jessamine. Good ta hear ye about again as well. I hope ye've had a good day thus far?"
It was a fawn. The poor thing had caught it's leg in a hunters trap, and the mother was no where to be found. It was barely walking, and Kaleah did not hesitate to scoop the poor thing up into her arms. Ripping a piece of her skirt off, to wrapped the leg with, and hoping they wouldn't mind her bringing the poor thing in. She knew nothing about helping it. But thought perhaps someone inside did. The door was opened. "This poor baby was outside, and it's hurt." Hoping someone would help.
Mug set aside, a smile offered to all as she stepped from the bar. "Excuse me please, I find myself in need of fresh air." A polite smile offered before she'd turn to make her way to the door, stepping out it. She shrugged. "It is fair enough." She glanced towards Maurice; had that been addressed to her? "I am a bit puzzled, but it is nothing time shall not work out, I'm sure."
She turned to Draven with a was it something I said? look on her face as Carly left.
"I don't think so," brows furrowed as he followed her out. "Are you all right Carly?" Maybe she got some more of her memory back? He could hope.
Glancing back to Draven, a smile offered. "I'm fine, thanks. Just a lot to absorb and try to piece together. I must confess, it's a bit overwhelming."
He took a lean against the post of the porch as a cigarillo was taken from his vest. It was cold out but he was warm in the lined vest and poet's shirt. A match flared to life igniting the end as he took in a drag leaving a vanilla scent in the exhale. "I would imagine it is very frustrating. You're doing very well under the circumstances."
