A glance in Osiris' direction and the change would be noted. However, unlike the others, she didn't outwardly react. As if that was the way he looked all the time. Attention then upon Randell as he imparted his information. "I never thought the man to be feeble of mind, even if he has truly gone mad, Randell. One doesn't hold the position of King, unless they have a sense about them, or powerful people behind him. Either way, I don't expect this to be an easy task, nor do I honestly believe it won't hold risks. It may not go over the way expected at all." A glance then to Osiris. "There's even more interesting individuals beginning to appear. Like men who wear masks in the shape of a dragon, who are also seeking out a certain Dracolich that has something they consider theirs." A tid bit of information she was hoping to share under different circumstances, but it would be shared openly now. Looking over to Rin with a slight tilt of her head. "What's the matter Rin? You keep referring to him as an old man, and now you are taken back by the image you produced?" Brow to rise slightly.
Positions of everyone were noted and set to the back of his mind. It was to the point now where it looked as if he could break a hip or fracture an elbow simply by moving. Yet, side to side he rocked while the information was provided about the Barbarian King and the newly introduced mask wearing phenomena. From the darkest of blacks to the most brilliant of white Osiris' eyes shifted and latched onto the image of Rin. Ekaterina toying with the pirate while Osiris finally provided the words to the inquire. " Two simple requests, Rin. " Or so said the geriatric male. " The first... " coughcoughcoughhack! Was that on Rin's boot? " My apologies. The first you must make a cup of tea. A dab of honey if you please kind sir. " He used a sleeve to wipe some of the drool off the corner of his mouth. It even looked like his body had shrunken into some of his attire making him appear much smaller than before and even with the hunch. " Your second task of proving your... " Head raised like he was going to sneeze. But, he managed to catch it. " ... your worth will come after the first is complete. " How hard could it be? A knowing look passed to Randell as well as Ekaterina. Their words not having gone missed but Osiris had to maintain a little bit of focus. " Nice, warm cup of tea... " Near toothless grin.
Randell just shook his head slowly, finishing another snifter's worth of brandy with a long pull. A long night, indeed. "You forgot the pointed hat, Osiris..." the merchant pointed out.
Rin was just staring at the old man, frowning still. When Osiris began to cough, Rin took a step back, muttering as he scraped his boot hard against the wooden floor, trying to get the spittle off. "A cup of tea? And I am to accomplish this great feat how - can I use any means at my disposal?" the pirate asked, brow raised.
The merchant just sighed. "Are you certain you don't want to see those hot springs now, Ekaterina?" Randell asked in a whisper.
Oh how she wanted to outright grin, smirk, and even laugh; but she didn't. Oh no, she maintained the most serene of images with that youthful expression of innocents, even if those icy shards did belie the truth. She almost lost it hearing Randells comment, but still maintained. Then Osiris spoke of Rin's first task, and focus was upon the Pirate with a curious glance. "Surly even you can fill a cup with tea, Rin." Motioning to the tea service that rested on the table that set between she and Osiris. His mug and the server of honey both at its side. Her hand would motion to direct his attention to it, as she slowly rose from her seat with tankard in hand. Moving to the bar to offer the empty vessel to Radulfr, waving off a refill. Randells words whispered as she stood near, and she'd glance over at him and this time she would chuckle. "And miss this?" Slow shake of her head. "Hardly." Playful wink directed his way and she'd move back towards the hearth. Though, instead of reclaiming her seat recently vacated, she'd move to stand at the hearths side. Enjoying the warmth and a front row seat to view all that would transpire.
In truth none of this was to be taken to any offense. If Rin was to come Osiris had to ensure that they were in good company. As simple as the menial task was it held a great deal of depth. An artful cut of the eyes toward Randell as the pointed hat statement was made. It was tough as hell not to just burst into tears laughing. " Indeed, " he attempted to say in the rough, gravelly voice. Three shades deep of death itself in delivery. The question from Rin was practically answered by Ekaterina. Osiris lifted his boney hand from beneath the fabric of his long sleeves and pointed in the same direction she had. " Easy... Sonny. " So raspy and aged. " Don't want you to hurt yourself... " There was another fit of coughs and mucus snorting. Sigh as if he had trouble breathing. " ... over such a great feat... " His face nearly had that pug-dog look with the overlapping wrinkles. " I ain't getting' any younger, boy. " Swallow of spit and both hands grasped the wilted cane for stability.
Then... Rin grinned. "Very well, I'll make you a cup of tea... by any means at my disposal. Myoc!"
The half-orc stepped forward, arms folded across his thick chest, frowning knowingly.
"Make Kat's grandfather a cup of tea, would you?"
There was a pregnant pause, then - "No," the half-orc stated flatly.
Rin chuckled, turning to Myoc. "You think I'd ask this of you without being prepared?"
That caused the half-breed's brow to arch.
"My bottle of Old Sour Reddin," the pirate stated. "I was saving it to give you on the solstice, but this is as good a time as any..."
There was another hesitation, but apparently Rin knew Myoc's weaknesses too well, for the large man headed toward the kitchen with an unnaturally quiet stride.
Rin took to a stool next to Randell, looking quite comfortable. "I could use a cup, too!" he called into the kitchen.
There was only a grunt in reply.
"He's actually quite good at making the stuff. And an accomplished cook, if you'd believe it."
A slow shake of her head with a soft tsk, tsk to sound. "And here I thought he was a man of means. Too bad." Quietly stated, and a look of disappointment to fix upon the fine details of features. Slowly she'd cross the slight distance to where Osiris sat. Leaning forward, oh yes, that would give Rin an eye full the way she did it, but distantly so. A soft whisper of words to Osiris. "I know where to get my warmth." A near purr of words to sound as her hand moved to insert within her pocket to withdraw the pendant and chain kept there. Earlier tasks had made it necessary for its removal, less it would give away her position to those she wished not to let know she was there. As she moved to stand once more, she'd pause to place the softest of kisses to Osiris' cheek, then stand fully. A glance towards Rin, then Randell before she'd move to reclaim her seat. Once settled, the task of placing the chain about her throat would then take place. As soon as the translucent stone touched flesh, the tell-tale sign of a soft inward glow to illuminate the pulsating motion of what it contained within.
Resourcefulness despite any means was a valuable resource in any land. While the outcome may not have been what many had expected brilliance was exhibited and preparation displayed. The power of the mind in its glory and the witnessing of such gears turning. But, without a guileful hand or body tolerant to the elements even the cerebral functions were limited. Myoc slipped into the kitchen and a soft nod was provided toward Rin in a job well done fashion. The soft whisper from Kat graced the shell of his ear and the Tsol Raa had a deterrence of thoughts. He looked toward her pendant and then lifted his eyes toward her after she kissed his cheek. Oh, how that smile of his lit up. Business! Had to get back to business! Rin was locked within his peripheral once again. The very old man began to stand and he hobbled his ancient ass toward Randell and Rin. The clank of his stick followed by the pat... pat of his feet. Three seconds for each motion forward until he was close enough to Rin. " The next task is more physical. " This, is where Osiris began to grin and perhaps his youth shown through for a second.
"I won't be kissing you like she did, old man..." Rin cut in right there.
Yes, this is where revenge on Kat would come into play. " You must land a single kiss upon Ekaterina's lips. " Yes, specific this time around. The last was left vague on purpose. A glance to Kat and Rin cut him right then and there! Oh, how he laughed. " You got a pretty mouth, Rin. But, you'd be using it for something more other than kissing me. " He laughed and nudged him with his stick before hobbling back to his seat.
That lit up Rin's features. "Now that is a task suited to my skill set..." and rising from his stool - grunting as he was prodded in the ribs - Rin turned to Ekaterina with a feral grin. With a slow saunter, the pirate made his way over to the pale-haired vixen, leaned forward and whispered something in her ear. "The old man is trying to make a fool out of both of us - perhaps you'd like to make him jealous? A chaste peck to the lips will accomplish something for both of us. Me, succeeding in the task, and you... holding it over his head what I whispered to make you kiss me... something that I'm sure will be nagging him for quite some time..." When he finished, Rin pulled back and arched a brow at Kat, waiting.
Randell watched, smirking. "What's the betting?" he asked Osiris just as
Myoc came out of the kitchen with a steaming kettle and a few tea cups. Setting one down before both Randell and Osiris, the half-orc poured, then set the kettle on the bar counter.
Curious, Randell took a sip, then nodded in satisfaction. "It's good to know that Rin doesn't lie about everything. This is quite good..."
Now that had her sitting up and taking notice. Her head snapped to the side as she looked towards Osiris as if he just grew a second head. Attention was then upon Rin and eyes narrowed as she slowly rose from her chair. She'd look over to Osiris and Randell for a moment, then look back up to Rin. Head tilted as she considered the words whispered near her ear and something else. Slowly a smirk would appear upon her lips as she took the few steps that would close the distance between herself and the Pirate. "If you want it, you have to take it. I give nothing away." Crooned to the towering male before her. Hands were at her side, she made no move to snag her weapon to hold against his gut, or to threaten his family jewels with; yet. Icy shards of blue would gaze up into Rin’s and hold. "Only a true man can kiss me, let's see if you have what it takes."
Tricks and trade. Osiris seemed to always carry a serious air about him but those that got to know him deeper understood it wasn't all true. There were times he could be as light hearted as any bard and simply enjoy time with others without having an ulterior motive. The pirate was already on the move and Kat's look had him shrugging a bit. No idea what was whispered nor would he even attempt to find out. Myoc brought the tea out and Osiris looked to the half-breed. " No good deed goes unpunished. But, many thanks for the tea. " Genuine in all it's worth as he sampled it after Randell had. Osiris made the necessary preparations and the comment of betting had him looking to Randell with a bemused smirk. " I believe it is in Rin's favor, unfortunately. Ambition is solid. Desire already sold. Youthful haste... Temptation's fool. " That last one sounded a bit off, didn't it? " I'll have to ask for my point hat back after this, by the way. " It had become more of an inside joke between them.
"No, it's mine Osiris. Now I have the power to turn people into frogs and such..." Randell replied with a rolling gesture of his hand.
Rin was simply staring at Kat, then. His head was thingyed to one side, and he watched her as
one might a cat. Liquid in motion, sleek, yet apt to scratch your face off. "Stop me, if you wish..." the pirate dared her, reaching a hand forward to caress the line of her jaw, tapering down to the chin so he could lift her head... just... so, perfectly positioning the woman's lips as he leaned forward and...
She'd watch every move he made, and she didn't pull away when his hand moved to become familiar with the soft surface of flesh. Allowing him to position her as he would, was there a catch? When he leaned in to kiss her, he would get a surprise. It would be how soft and warm those lips felt when they touched his. The light scent of Lilly of the valley to assault his nose. He might feel the motion of her hand as it rose, but not to do as he might have thought. No punch in the nose, or a right hook to his cheek, nor even a fist in the gut or below. It would move to rest lightly against his cheek, however, the sensation of that touch was unlike that initial of lips. Cold and leathery would be the feel of that skin, almost boney in nature the touch. The soft scent of Lilly of valley began to slowly recede and the scent of age, musk, and mildew to take its place. The soft warmth of lips too would slowly recede and that of something dry and cold now pressed to his lips. When Rin opened his eyes, it wasn't Kat that stood there before him in a moment of passion or sharing a moment. It was the old man that had so dared him the task that stood before him now!
" Frogs are a thing of the past, my friend. Penguins are the new polymorph. Merchant should be with the times. " Osiris turned to witness the actions beginning to unfold. Quietly, observing and occasionally sipping from his tea. The anticipation was getting the better of him to see what Kat was going to do. Rin was fortunate. For, what he did kiss was indeed Ekaterina and what she evolved into was a materialistic mirage of him. " Lead him with temptation and he becomes without question. Give a simple request and it all becomes a query. " Amusing and it gave Osiris an idea of what to expect on a miniscule degree. " You're in, Rin. " The tea grasped once more and given a good swallow.
Rin yelped and leapt back and was Spitting several times.
Randell watched on, chuckling to himself, putting down the tea and picking up the brandy.
What was truly unexpected was the deep baritone of Myoc's laughter.
He shook his head, glanced between the two Osiris', and then smirked. "All right, gramps, you aren't such a bad kisser after all, 'eh?" he glared at both of them again, then gestured for the still guffawing half-orc to follow him. Without missing a beat, and still being close enough to get away with it, Rin pinched Kat's backside before slipping away like an eel. Whether it was a bony rump or the Norse's tempting ass, that was yet to be seen, but it was a small measure of revenge. Regardless, he gave a two-fingered salute to all the room, and disappeared out the door.
"Gods, haven't laughed like that in years..." Myoc chortled, following his captain out.
"Well... that was almost too cruel, even for Rin..." the merchant stated. "Almost."
Laughter, full and rich when Rin leapt back and yelped; priceless. Concentration lost and the illusion did drop and she was as she was just in time to get a pinch on the ass? His hand would feel hers when she slapped at his as it withdrew. A grin and wink directed Myoc's way as he fell in step behind Rin. Then she turned and faced towards Osiris, the look in her eyes said he would pay dearly for that. Attention shifted towards Randell. "Cruel? Hardly. I could have been though. I could have looked like his mother." Add that for a reaction and visionary of thought. Then she grinned wide with a glance towards the door. "I hope that vision gives you the sweetest of dreams. I always thought you were jealous of him, seems I had that part wrong." Teasingly shouted out after Rin. Now she was heading to the bar and where Osiris sat.
It was well worth the laugh and the fact Myoc took to it so well and hearty made the effort all the more of a bonus. The statement from Rin had Osiris shaking his head but with a wide smirk. Then, he got that look from Ekaterina and he blinked with a faint hint of innocence. He shifted his attention toward Randell as well. " I'm not even that cold hearted, " said the pot calling the kettle black. The yell from Kat to Rin had him laughing again. " I would have taken your honest opinion of him but I couldn't let an opportunity go." Surely, one of Randell's class and skill understood. Slowly, Osiris' features began to lose the wrinkles, flesh began to smooth and tighten, and even some of bone structure began to reform.
At the mention of Rin's mother, Randell frowned, his face shadowed as a serious note shivered like a miasma in the air. "Rin's mother was a sleeper from Middleport," he said with a sigh, glancing between the two of them. "I should say a high-priced courtesan, but in the end they're all the same. They sell a service, and they get paid for it. Rin's mother was simply better at haggling, and had superior goods..." he took no humor in his own words, standing and straightening his coat. "She wasn't very fond of the boy - probably why Rin's so dead set on getting all the attention he can manage." Shaking his head slowly, he glanced between the pair of them. "Rin is obnoxious, petulant and arrogant to a fault. He's also shrewd, resourceful and skilled. Once you've won his friendship, you'll never want for a better ally..." He stopped there, meeting both their eyes. "Which is exactly why I didn't want him to come." Taking in a slow breath, his gray eyes took to the window, noting the hour. "But, we'll probably need him before long. And Myoc is almost as good to have at your side as Rin... good night Kat, Osiris." He nodded to both before slipping out the door himself.
Yep, you know how those Mama jokes can come back and bite ya in the ass. Crystalline blues fixed upon Randell as she moved to stand at Osiris' side. She almost felt bad for pulling that joke on Rin, almost. However, she did regret making the mother comment, even if it was meant to make a point. "He's a grown man, Randell, and his wish is to accompany you, not us. Even if he obnoxious and at times infuriating, I can see his strengths too, and I don't mean of muscle mass. If you don't want him to come, then talk to him. Be honest. We're not forcing anyone along, it has to be willingly and with an understanding of what could happen should we fail." A hand to lightly rest upon Osiris shoulder while eyes remained upon Randell. "You and I still need to sit and talk. If we're going to present ourselves in a manner as we are, then a facade must be created. But, there is another alternative too." Head tilted slightly as she gazed upon him. "Instead of my advisor, you could simply portray as you do now, a merchant. You too to bring forth gifts of tiding and congratulations. I'm sure I could get the little Rom to step up into the part, and it to be more believable, since the Gypsy woman knows more than I could share with you in a month’s time." Slight shrug. "The choice is yours to make, consider it and we'll talk tomorrow." A nod of her head to the Merchant then. "Night." Head tilted slightly as she looked to Osiris. "The hour grows late, it's not good for an old man to be up so long without rest." Amused twist to lips in the form of a grin, and glinted within those baby blues. "Perhaps I should help
a feeble old man up to his room?" Brow to rise slightly. Randell may have taken the wind out of the sails for a moment, but Kat was like her namesake. Quick on her feet and with changing situations with a single breath and placement of a smile. Laughter to be their companion as the two would head up the stairs to the room above. Radulfr enjoyed the entire evening, as the scene gave him something out of the norm, but frowned as he watched her move up the stairs with Osiris. She needed to talk to Osiris, but it would have to await another day. Things to be discussed that had gone too long in avoidance. She also needed to send word to the Gypsy. For soon all would be staying at the manor, the last phase before heading towards the north.
Positions of everyone were noted and set to the back of his mind. It was to the point now where it looked as if he could break a hip or fracture an elbow simply by moving.
